Seasonal timing

Frost normally arrives around November 26, which is when any hose bib feeding an outbuilding should already be shut off at its own valve and drained, a habit worth keeping from Patterson to here.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

How do I winterize a line running out to a shop?

Shut that branch at its own valve and open the far end so the pipe drains rather than sitting full. If the branch has no valve, that is the first thing to add. A drained line cannot burst, which is why this is the one measure that reliably works.

The buried line to the barn keeps failing at the same spot. Why there?

Usually because that is where the pipe comes out of the ground and stands in open air, or where a fitting sits shallower than the rest of the run. Freeze damage concentrates at the transition, not along the buried section. Fixing it properly means burying deeper or protecting the riser.

Can I use a hose bib as the shutoff for an outside branch?

No, since a bib is the end of the line rather than a valve controlling it. Water still stands in the whole run behind it. What you want is a ball valve where the branch leaves the house, somewhere you can reach without a ladder.

Is a slow drip from an outdoor faucet worth calling about?

Yes, once it drips with the handle fully closed. That usually means a damaged seat or a stem cracked by a past freeze, and the same defect lets water sit where the next cold night can work on it. It is a small job now and a wall repair later.
