Seasonal timing

First frost arrives early here, normally around November 7, so an uninsulated exterior wall run has a longer exposure than it does further south toward Cedartown.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

How can I tell whether the pipe in my walls is copper or something older?

Look where the plumbing is visible, usually at the water heater, under a sink or in the crawlspace. Copper is reddish and smooth, galvanised steel is grey and threaded at the fittings. Mixed materials in one house are common in older places near Kingston and tell you a partial repipe happened at some point.

Is insulating an exterior wall enough to stop a burst?

It helps but it is not a guarantee, because insulation only slows heat loss and a long cold spell can still get through. Where the wall is being opened anyway, moving the pipe to the interior side is the real fix. Short of that, insulation plus a drip on the coldest nights is a reasonable defence.

The house has knob-and-tube era plumbing. Should everything be replaced at once?

Not necessarily, and a phased plan usually makes more sense than one large project. Replace the runs that are exposed or already leaking first, since those carry the real risk. A plumber can map what is left and give you an order to work through.

Water pressure dropped after a cold snap and hasn't come back. What is going on?

That usually means a split line somewhere is bleeding water, or a section is still partly frozen and restricting flow. Check the meter with everything off. If the dial moves, shut the main and treat it as an active leak rather than waiting for it to clear on its own.
