Frost normally shows up around Nov 7, and the 49 freeze nights that follow it are the ones that find a hose still screwed to an outdoor faucet. Plumbers hear the same thing from Emerson within a day of the first hard one.

That is short cycling, and the pressure tank is the usual reason. The tank holds an air charge that lets the pump rest between draws, and once it is waterlogged the pump takes the whole load. Left alone it will shorten the pump's life considerably, so it is worth handling before the pump quits.
Iron and sulphur in well water can change as the water table moves through a dry stretch or after heavy rain. Sediment stirred up by a pump cycling hard does the same. Have the water tested rather than guessing, because the treatment for iron and the treatment for bacteria are not the same thing.
It depends on the policy and on what failed, so contact your insurance provider before repairs begin. Photograph the water and the failed part, and keep the section of pipe if it comes out. Carriers generally want the cause documented, and a written note from the plumber makes that straightforward.
Shut the water off at the main and open a low tap to drain the pressure out of the system. If water is anywhere near wiring or a panel, cut the breaker for that circuit. Move what you can off the wet floor. That is as far as it should go.
