Finding the leak is most of the work. A plumber closes the house valve and watches the meter out by the road: still moving means the loss is on the service line between the meter and the house, and stopping means it's inside. That one test saves hours of looking in the wrong place. Inside a slab home the search moves to acoustic gear and pressure isolation on the hot and cold sides separately. Outside it usually comes down to tracing the service run and reading the ground, and Georgia soil makes that its own puzzle: sand on the coastal plain carries water sideways so the wet spot at the surface can sit well off the actual break, while clay through the middle of the state holds it and gives a more honest read. Hose bibbs and irrigation lines get ruled out early, since a valve weeping underground on an irrigation zone imitates a service-line leak almost perfectly. Once the source is confirmed, the repair is matched to the pipe already in the ground rather than to whatever's on the truck.
